This code describes a stage of congenital syphilis where the infection, acquired at birth, is no longer symptomatic but serological tests remain positive. There is no clinical evidence of active disease, but the treponemal infection persists in a dormant state.

Use this code for patients with a documented history of congenital syphilis who are currently asymptomatic but have reactive non-treponemal and treponemal serologic tests. This applies when there is no evidence of active late congenital syphilis manifestations (e.g., interstitial keratitis, neurosyphilis, bone lesions). Documentation should clearly indicate a diagnosis of latent congenital syphilis without active disease.

• Distinguish from early congenital syphilis (090.0-090.4) which presents with active symptoms in infancy or early childhood.
• Ensure documentation specifies "latent" and "congenital" to differentiate from acquired latent syphilis.
• Do not use if there are active manifestations of late congenital syphilis; instead, code to the specific manifestation (e.g., 090.5 for neurosyphilis).
