Use this code when the medical record clearly documents a stillbirth event, indicating the fetus was non-viable at the time of delivery. This code is assigned to the fetus or newborn record to indicate the outcome.

• Do not use this code on the maternal record; refer to O36.4 for maternal care related to intrauterine death.
• Avoid using this code with Z37.1, Z37.3, Z37.4, or Z37.7, as these are outcome of delivery codes for the mother's record.
• Ensure documentation specifies fetal demise occurred before birth to differentiate from live birth followed by neonatal death.
