Use this code when dental examination and imaging confirm an early-stage carious lesion confined to the enamel on a smooth tooth surface. Documentation should clearly indicate the location (smooth surface) and depth (enamel only) of the decay.

• Differentiate from caries on pit and fissure surfaces (K02.5-).
