This code describes symblepharon, a condition where the conjunctiva of the eyelid adheres to the conjunctiva of the eyeball, specifically affecting both eyes. This adhesion can partially or completely obliterate the conjunctival fornix, restricting eye movement and potentially causing discomfort or vision impairment.

Use this code when documentation clearly indicates the presence of symblepharon affecting both the right and left eyes. This typically occurs following severe ocular inflammation, trauma, or chemical burns. The physician's notes should explicitly state "bilateral symblepharon" or describe the condition affecting both eyes.

• Ensure the documentation explicitly states the bilateral nature of the symblepharon; otherwise, a unilateral code may be more appropriate.
