This code signifies a historical pattern of problematic use of stimulant substances, excluding cocaine and methamphetamine, where the individual no longer meets the full diagnostic criteria for abuse or dependence for at least 12 months. The patient is currently abstinent or has significantly reduced use, and there are no current symptoms of active stimulant abuse.

Apply this code when documentation indicates a past diagnosis of abuse of stimulants such as amphetamines, ecstasy, or other specified stimulants, and the patient is now in a period of sustained remission. This code is appropriate when the patient is receiving ongoing support or monitoring for their past stimulant use disorder, even if they are not actively in treatment for the abuse itself.

• Ensure documentation explicitly states "in remission" or provides clear evidence of sustained abstinence/reduced use for at least 12 months.
• Do not use this code if the patient is actively abusing stimulants or is in a period of acute withdrawal.
• Distinguish from F15.21 (Other stimulant dependence, in remission) based on the historical diagnosis of abuse versus dependence.
