Sarcoid myositis

This code describes inflammation of the skeletal muscles due to sarcoidosis. Sarcoid myositis is a rare manifestation of sarcoidosis, characterized by granulomatous infiltration of muscle tissue, leading to muscle weakness, pain, and atrophy. It can present acutely, subacutely, or chronically.

Use this code when documentation clearly indicates a diagnosis of sarcoidosis affecting the muscles. This applies to patients presenting with muscle symptoms, elevated muscle enzymes, and biopsy-proven granulomas in muscle tissue in the context of sarcoidosis. Supporting documentation would include pathology reports, physician notes detailing muscle involvement, and diagnostic imaging findings.

• Ensure the documentation explicitly links the myositis to sarcoidosis; otherwise, a general myositis code may be more appropriate.
• Code any associated systemic manifestations of sarcoidosis, such as pulmonary or cutaneous involvement, in addition to the myositis.
