Use this code when documentation specifies a melanocytic nevus located on the cheek, forehead, nose, chin, or other facial areas not covered by more specific D22 codes. Supporting documentation should clearly indicate the benign nature of the lesion and its precise facial location.

• Differentiate from malignant melanoma (C43.-) or atypical nevi (D48.5) based on pathology reports or physician assessment.
• Ensure the documentation specifies "melanocytic nevus" or "mole" and not just a generic "lesion" to avoid miscoding.
• If the nevus is excised, also code the appropriate CPT procedure code for excision of benign lesions.
