Primary lesions of pinta

This code represents the initial stage of pinta, a chronic treponemal infection characterized by the appearance of non-itchy, erythematous, scaly papules and plaques, often on exposed skin. These primary lesions, known as "pintids," typically develop at the site of inoculation.

Use this code when documentation clearly indicates the presence of the primary lesions of pinta, prior to the development of secondary or tertiary manifestations. This code is appropriate when the patient presents with the initial skin changes characteristic of the disease.

• Ensure documentation specifies "primary lesions" to differentiate from later stages of pinta.
• Do not confuse with other treponemal infections like syphilis or yaws; pinta is distinct.
• Consider co-coding with Z11.3 (Encounter for screening for other spirochetal diseases) if screening is also performed.
