Tics of organic origin

This code represents involuntary, sudden, rapid, recurrent, nonrhythmic motor movements or vocalizations (tics) that are attributable to an identifiable organic cause. These tics are not psychogenic in origin but rather result from a neurological condition, medication side effect, or other physiological disturbance.

Use this code when documentation clearly indicates tics are secondary to a known organic etiology, such as a brain injury, neurodegenerative disease, or drug-induced movement disorder. Supporting documentation should specify the organic cause and the presence of tics.

• Differentiate from psychogenic tics (e.g., Tourette's syndrome) which are coded elsewhere.
• Always code the underlying organic condition first, followed by this code as a manifestation.
• Ensure the medical record explicitly links the tics to a specific organic cause.
