This code describes a previously treated transverse fracture of the shaft of the right tibia that was initially an open fracture (Type IIIA, IIIB, or IIIC) and has now healed in a misaligned position. The fracture itself is currently nondisplaced, but the bone union is considered imperfect or deformed.

Apply this code for follow-up encounters where a patient presents with a malunion of a right tibial shaft fracture that was originally an open fracture of severe type. This is used when the fracture has united, but with an unacceptable degree of angulation, rotation, or shortening, requiring ongoing management or evaluation.

• Ensure documentation clearly specifies "malunion" and confirms the original fracture was an open Type IIIA, IIIB, or IIIC.
