Use this code for patients presenting for routine follow-up appointments after an initial diagnosis of a nondisplaced fracture at the base of a metacarpal (other than the first metacarpal). This applies when the physician documents normal healing progress and the patient is not experiencing any complications or delayed union.

• Ensure documentation specifies "nondisplaced" and "base of other metacarpal bone" (i.e., second, third, fourth, or fifth metacarpal).
• The "D" seventh character indicates a subsequent encounter for routine healing. Do not use for initial treatment or encounters for delayed/nonunion.
• Verify the laterality (left, right, or unspecified) is clearly documented.
