Assign this code when documentation clearly indicates a gait disturbance directly attributable to paralysis or significant paresis. This includes conditions like hemiplegic, paraplegic, or monoplegic gait. Supporting documentation should detail the nature of the gait abnormality and its paralytic origin.

• Do not use this code for non-paralytic gait disturbances; consider codes from R26.0, R26.2, or R26.8 for those presentations.
• Always code the underlying cause of the paralysis or paresis first, if known and actively treated.
• Ensure documentation specifies "paralytic" or describes symptoms consistent with paralysis affecting gait, rather than just general unsteadiness or ataxia.
