This code represents a prolapse or herniation of the female urethra into the vaginal canal, typically due to weakening of the pelvic floor support structures. It is a distinct condition from a cystocele, which involves bladder prolapse, though they can co-occur.

Use this code when documentation clearly indicates an isolated urethrocele without mention of a co-occurring cystocele or uterine prolapse. This diagnosis is often made during a pelvic exam revealing a bulge in the anterior vaginal wall specifically involving the urethra.

• Always review documentation to confirm the urethrocele is isolated; if a cystocele or uterine prolapse is also present, a more specific code from the N81.1-N81.4 range will be required.
• Do not confuse with urethral diverticulum, which is a different anatomical abnormality of the urethra.
• Ensure the provider's notes explicitly state "urethrocele" or describe a prolapse of the urethra into the vagina.
