This code describes inflammation of the synovial membrane and/or tendon sheath at multiple anatomical sites, caused by an infectious agent other than those specified in more specific codes. It indicates a systemic or multifocal presentation of infective tenosynovitis.

Use this code when documentation specifies infective tenosynovitis affecting more than one distinct anatomical location, and the causative organism is not explicitly bacterial, viral, or fungal (e.g., unspecified infection). Supporting documentation should clearly indicate multiple affected sites and an infectious etiology.

• Do not use for localized infective tenosynovitis; refer to site-specific codes.
• Always code the underlying infectious agent (e.g., B95-B97) as an additional diagnosis, if known.
• Distinguish from non-infectious tenosynovitis (M65.8- or M65.9-), which lacks an infectious etiology.
