Polyp of stomach and duodenum

This code represents the presence of a benign, non-adenomatous growth or lesion originating from the mucosal lining of the stomach or duodenum. These polyps are typically asymptomatic but may be discovered incidentally during endoscopy or imaging studies.

Use this code when documentation specifies a polyp of the stomach or duodenum without further histological classification as adenomatous. This is appropriate for findings such as hyperplastic polyps, inflammatory polyps, or when the pathology report is pending or inconclusive regarding adenomatous features.

• Do not use this code if the pathology report confirms an adenomatous polyp; refer to D13.1.
• Ensure documentation clearly states the location as stomach or duodenum; avoid using for polyps in other gastrointestinal segments.
• If the polyp is specified as malignant, a more specific code from the C-series (neoplasms) should be used.
