Mucocele of salivary gland

This code represents a benign, fluid-filled cyst that forms in a salivary gland, typically due to obstruction or trauma to a salivary duct. It commonly presents as a soft, painless swelling in the oral cavity, often on the lower lip. The fluid within the mucocele is usually mucus.

Use this code when documentation clearly indicates a diagnosis of a mucocele affecting any salivary gland. This includes ranulas (mucoceles of the sublingual gland) and mucoceles of minor salivary glands. Supporting documentation should describe the location and nature of the lesion.

• Differentiate from other oral cavity cysts or benign neoplasms; ensure the documentation specifies "mucocele."
• Do not use for salivary gland stones (sialolithiasis) or infections (sialadenitis).
