This code is appropriate when the thrombosis is idiopathic, related to hypercoagulable states, or other non-infectious causes.

• Always confirm the absence of infarction; if infarction is present, a different code (I63.6) is required.
• Ensure documentation specifies "nonpyogenic" or "non-infectious" to differentiate from septic intracranial venous thrombosis.
