Junctional premature depolarization

This code represents an abnormal heart rhythm originating from the atrioventricular (AV) junction, characterized by premature electrical impulses that disrupt the normal sinus rhythm. These premature beats can occur as isolated events or in runs, and may or may not be symptomatic.

Use this code when documentation explicitly states "junctional premature depolarization," "junctional premature beats," or "premature junctional contractions (PJCs)." This diagnosis is typically made based on an electrocardiogram (ECG) interpretation.

• Do not confuse with premature atrial contractions (PACs) or premature ventricular contractions (PVCs); ensure the documentation specifies "junctional."
• If the patient also has an underlying cardiac condition, sequence the underlying condition first, if it is the primary reason for the encounter.
